Be Secure:  Prepare – Respond – Survive™

David Scott

I’m David Scott, an emergency preparedness & disaster response solutions expert who has personally survived several natural and man-made disasters and emergencies, and I’m working to help others be prepared to do the same.

My Mission is simple… “Every Life Secure!” This means helping helping ordinary people be secure in any disaster or emergency. To date, my associates and I at LifeSecure Emergency Solutions (www.LifeSecure.com) have helped over 1 Million people be secure.

I survived my first disaster in 1970 while growing up in Asia on the Philippine Islands. My father worked for General Electric and had been transferred to the Philippines after a two year assignment in Sydney, Australia. Shortly after our move, my U.S. expatriate family and I were welcomed to the tropics by Super Typhoon Yoling. With its sustained winds of 130 MPH, this was one of the strongest and deadliest storms on record.

Never having experienced any type of hurricane or typhoon, we were totally unprepared to weather both the storm and its aftermath. In the process of “defending” our home from the high winds, my father, my two older brothers, and I narrowly escaped injury or death from the shattering of large glass patio doors. For two weeks after the eye of the storm passed directly over our neighborhood, we lived without electricity, running water, or access to groceries.

As soon as the storm was over, we sped to the grocery store. Too late! I will always remember the candles lighting row after row of totally empty shelves. It was near Thanksgiving, so we roasted our frozen turkey on a charcoal barbecue grill. After eating the rest of the contents of our refrigerator and freezer, we lived off of what rice and canned goods we happened to have on-hand at home. We lined up for water at a local public pump and carried it back home in buckets on a little wagon.

These hardships taught us lessons that we would never forget. As a family, we determined never to be caught unprepared again, and we made emergency preparedness a focus.

Since surviving that first typhoon, I have lived through various disasters and emergencies in the United States, Mexico, and the Philippines including: additional typhoons, floods, earthquakes, blizzards, severe storms, blackouts, a chemical plant explosion, a volcanic eruption, political violence (including riots, shootings, kidnappings, terrorist bombings), and the imposition of martial law. In these subsequent events, my family and I have always been prepared with basic emergency food, water, and supplies to sustain ourselves for several days or longer.

My professional background includes 16 years in the consumer packaged goods industry working on such great brands as Gold Medal Flour, Betty Crocker Desserts, and Crayola Crayons. My experience ranges from food to toys to office products, but my passion has always been developing and marketing superior products to meet real customer needs. For the past ten plus years I have focused on developing and discovering superior emergency and disaster survival solutions – kits and supplies.

I founded LifeSecure Emergency Solutions with two partners (Dave Hewitt and Larry Ginsberg) in 2005. At LifeSecure, we help people prepare for and effectively respond to natural or man-made emergencies and disasters at home, at work, at school, and on-the-go. Our company specializes in providing superior emergency preparedness kits and supplies that meet U.S. Government All-Hazards Preparedness guidelines and recommendations from leading disaster-response organizations. Our products are easy to use in an emergency and designed to be tough enough for use in difficult disaster circumstances.

My associates and I are Secure Survival Solutions Experts. Along with them, I personally develop many of the unique and innovative emergency survival products we offer. I am also constantly on the lookout for excellent emergency preparedness products developed by others. We work to integrate these products into our emergency kits or to offer them as part of our product line on www.lifesecure.com.

In addition to my LifeSecure efforts, I have trained community groups in emergency preparedness, helped non-profit organizations prepare emergency kits for needy individuals, and conducted community emergency response exercises, and developed emergency plans for non-profit organizations. I make an ongoing study of how best to prepare for and respond to various natural and man-made disasters.

I try to bring a very practical and simple approach to emergency preparedness as one who has personally lived through many distressing events and knows the importance of preparing to be secure in an unsure world.

I hope that together, with the help of those of you who comment and participate on this blog, we will be able to help ourselves and others to better prepare for emergencies and disasters. In this way we can help to reach the ideal of … “Every Life Secure!”
